1) Cook / Chef

  • A chef is a skilled and trained cook who works in a hotel or restaurant
  • A chef creates the menus and decides the recipes
  • A chef also handles all the kitchen operations
  • A chef prepares Yummy meals.
  • Chefs also plan the menu & recipes
  • They  train and manage the cooking staff.
  • A chef supervises the kitchen workers.

Types of Chefs

  • The saucier, commonly known as the sauce chef
  • The poissonnier, commonly referred to as the fish chef, is responsible for the preparation of all fish dishes in the kitchen. 
  • The rotisseur, also known as the roast chef, is in charge of preparing any roasted or braised meats on the menu.
  • The grillardin, also known as the grill chef, is, as the name implies, responsible for any foods that must be grilled. This can include meats, poultry, or even vegetables.
  • The friturier, more commonly known as the fry cook, handles any foods that must be cooked in oils or other animal fats
  • The entremetier station is where one would find the vegetable chef.
  • The tournant is the all-purpose chef in the kitchen brigade. The role is designed to move from station to station, assisting with any tasks, as needed. 
  • The garde manger, also known as the pantry chef, is in charge of most cold dishes on the menu. This includes various salads and cold appetizers, such as pate, cheese spreads, or even tartars.
  • The boucher is in charge of preparing all meats and poultry before they are delivered to their respective stations for preparation in menu dishes
  • The patissier, also known as a pastry chef, responsible for baked dishes, including breads and croissants

  • Painters paint objects such as fruits and vegetables. These are called still-life paintings.
  • A painter can work from anywhere.

    4) Astronaut

    • An astronaut is someone who has undergone specific training to fly into space.
    • They travel far beyond the earth into Sky and Space in a spacecraft, just like an airplane
    • An astronaut is a person who travels in space. 
    • Astronauts undergo a lot of training before they can go into the space.
    • They workout everyday to keep their muscles and bodies  strong while in space.
    • They keep the spacecraft extremely clean.
    • An astronaut works in a spaceship or a space station
    • A spaceship is cylindrical in shape.
    • A spaceship is a vehicle that carries astronauts & things from the earth to the space.
    • The national space agency of  India is ISRO.
    • Astronauts  work on the space station  to conduct scientific experiments and maintain the space station.
    • They  also complete a two-hour daily exercise program to remain fit.

    • An astronaut need to be physically fit and they undergo a lot of space training.
    • To be an astronaut, one needs to study 5-6 years more after college 
    • Around 10 years are  spent in preparing to become an astronaut.
    • A degree in astrophysics is an ideal starting point to be an astronaut.
    • Astronauts study Aerospace Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering/ Astrophysics

    • Police protect people from danger.

    • A person who carries out this duty is known as a Policeman / Policewoman

    6) Pilot

    • A pilot is a person who is trained to fly an aircraft.
    • Pilots operate an aircraft by controlling its directions of flight.
    • Pilots fly commercial planes, helicopters and military jets.
    • A Pilot navigates aeroplanes, helicopters and other aircraft.
    • Pilots are responsible for the safety of passengers. 
    • During turbulence the pilot turns the seat belt sign on to ensure passenger safety. 
    • Pilots also make timely announcements on the weather, temperature, time, distance to the destination, etc. 
    • Pilots also have co-pilots who help the pilots. They sit in the cockpit.

    • A Pilot works in an aeroplane or aircraft.
    • They work in the cockpit of an aeroplane which is a control area in front of an aeroplane.
    • When they are not flying planes, they work at an airport. 
    • An airport is a place where an aircraft can land and takeoff. 
    • Pilots fly an average of 75 hours per month and work an additional 150 hours per month performing other duties.

    How can you become a pilot?

    • Pilots study 5-6 years more after schooling.
    • To become a pilot, you must have a healthy body and good eyesight.
    • Pilots need to be physically fit.
    • A pilot undergoes hard and difficult training before flying an aeroplane.
    • Pilots study BTech in Aerospace Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering/ Astrophysics.

    • Airways is the quickest transport system available that helps in travelling very fast to a destination.
    • Pilots operate the aircrafts and hence they are very important professionals.
    • Pilots get the passenger safely from one point to another on time.
    • The pilot's responsibilities include transporting passengers and cargo, determining the safest routes, analyzing flight plans and weather conditions, calculating fuel, and inspecting operation systems and navigation equipment.

    7) Engineer

    • Engineers solve problems in our everyday life.
    • They use chemistry, physics and math to create new things or to improve an existing product. 
    • Here’s an example. How can anyone talk to a person who lives very very far? Alexander Graham Bell was the scientist and engineer who invented a telephone in 1876. 
    • Today we use smartphones to communicate to a person living far away and its engineers who create or improvise the existing inventions
    • Engineers play a key role in the growth and development of a country.
    • They help improve the lives of people by making them easier.
    • Engineers build smartphones, cars, buildings, bridges, aeroplanes, computers, television, fridge, blender, washing machine etc.
    • These inventions save our time and get the jobs done as quickly as possible. 
    • Engineers find innovative solutions to our problems. Hence they are very helpful to the world.

    • Automobile engineer designs and builds vehicles like cars, trucks, buses, etc. They work in automobile factories.
    • Aerospace engineer designs space vehicles or airplanes. They work for government agencies and manufacturing industries where space vehicles are made. 
    • Computer engineer develops applications and technologies that we access through internet. They work in IT companies
    • Civil engineer constructs buildings, bridges, roads, railway stations and many more. They supervise the construction and manage the crew until construction is completed as planned. They work both indoors and outdoors.
    • Chemical engineer uses chemicals to make products like drugs and medicines or fertilizers for crops. They work in chemical factories and laboratories.
    • Electrical engineer works with electricity and design electrical equipments. They work in the Electricity Department and electrical companies

     

    8) Architect

    • An Architect plans and designs buildings
    • The architect’s job is the ‘art’ side of the construction.
    • They design  good-looking beautiful buildings 
    • Architects use measuring tools, charts, models and computer software for designing anything new. 
    • Interestingly Architects learn to design everything, from furniture to interiors.
    • Architects work in an office, while designing and planning construction projects.
    • Once planning is done, they work outdoors on construction sites.

    • To be an architect, a person needs to study Architecture in college for 5 years after schooling. 
    • Architecture is one of the tough programs as it involves learning art, science, geography, history etc  
    • They need to get a license to become an architect.  
    • They are supported by designers, contractors and civil engineers

    • Architects are very helpful for us because they design buildings which we use.

    9) Doctor

    A doctor treats people who are sick. A Cardiologist is a doctor with special training in treating the diseases of the heart. A Ophthalmologist is a doctor with special training in treating the diseases of the eye. A Dentist is doctor whose job is to look after people’s teeth. An Orthopedic is a doctor whose job is to to treat our muscles and bones.

    • Most cardiologists have an office outside of a hospital, while some have it inside. Many cardiologists are often on call.
    • Ophthalmologists work in a variety of settings including outpatient clinics, operating theatres and community clinics.
    • Most dentists either work in private practices, dental hospitals or institutions.
    • Orthopaedic doctors can work in hospitals, university medical centers or private practices
    • To be a cardiologist, one needs to study 6 - 7 years more after schooling. A person needs a medical degree to become a cardiologist.
    • Dentists have a very long study duration of about 13 years after school. (5 years to complete the BDS degree and 8 years for MDS degree.)
    • To be an ophthalmologist, one needs to study 7-8 years more after schooling.

     

    10) Nurse

    Nurses give medicine, change bandages, help patients move around, and provide other treatment. 

    11) Firefighter

    Firefighters are trained to control and put out fires. Firefighters must work quickly and as a team to keep fires from spreading.

    12) Farmer

    A farmer is someone who grows plants and raises animals for human use.

    13) Scientist

    A scientist is a person who studies or has expertise in science. A scientist tries to understand how our world, or other things, work.

    14) Carpenter

    A carpenter makes doors, windows, tables and chairs. 

    15) Gardener

    A gardener takes care of our gardens.

    16) Postman

    He delivers letters.

    17) Waiter

    He waits at the tables in a restaurant, or café to take orders for meals and delivers it.

    18) Barber

    He shaves, trim, or style hair and beards.
